Tickets are $12/each and corporate tables are also available. Tickets will be sold at SBOIC and several other locations (tba). Social hour will begin at 5:30pm and dinner served at 6:30pm.
We are also accepting donated items for our prizes and auction. A tax receipt can be issued. Your donations are greatly appreciated as they help us feed and care for our owls. See you there!
IT'S A GIRL!!!!
We had bets going around SBOIC - almost everyone thought Sanders, the newest imprint, was male. But nope, he surprised us all when we got the news that he is actually a she.
With Burrowing Owls there is no difference in size or colour between male and female. The only way to tell is by taking a blood sample - that's what we just got the results from informing us that yes, indeed, Sanders is a girl.
Owl Update - Summer 2007
TROOPER - Imprinted
Funny little two-year old Trooper has had a very busy year! He was formally inducted into the Saskatchewan Dragoons army reserve unit as their mascot in December 2005. This famous little guy is starting to get a big ego— soon he'll want his own trailer and TWO mice a day.
SCAMPER - Imprinted
Scamper, now 7-years old, works less than he used to and we continue to provide a good home for him during his down time. When he is out on the road, unlike any other imprint we've had, he has always had a funny habit of falling asleep on us during presentations!
SPIKE and KAY
Spike and Kay hatched 1 chocolaty brown chick this spring. Both are dominant adults in the captive population, and they always make sure their chicks survive and grow quickly.TWIGGY and COOKIE
Cookie, our one-winged owl, is still the feistiest owl of them all. Twiggy hatched 2 chicks this year, one of which is Sanders- our new imprint that we're raising this summer. He's getting bigger every day and he's as cute as a button!GALE
Gale was hatched at the Centre and raised by SBOIC staff to be used for educational programming. He was sent to Alberta to be used in an educational program but was not used very much and lost is imprinting. Gale returned to the centre in 2003. Gale has never paired up, but this year hangs out in Cookie and Twiggy's territory.PIGLET and VALENTINO
Piglet hatched out 7 chicks this spring. They are growing fast and will be released into the wild later this summer. This is the third year these two owls have paired up.HUCKLEBERRY and SHERMAN
Huckleberry, the star owl from our live web-cam hatched out 7 chicks this year. Sherman always waits for feeding time to grab a mouse from our hands, and then run down the burrow with it—taking it to Huckleberry! What a fella! Check out our web-cam to see the chicks- if you're lucky, you might see their mom ripping apart a mouse for them to eat!ANALA and ZEUS
You might be surprised by who the female is in this pair - it's Zeus! This year she paired up with Anala, the one-eyed owl and together they are raising 7 chicks. If you're quiet enough when you walk around the corner to look at the owls, you might see the chicks hanging out outside their burrow.
