Education Outreach

One of the main pillars of our program at the SBOIC is education.  Our   outreach program began in 2000, as a relatively small traveling  presentation.  Since that time, the program has expanded to include  Owls On Tour, Owls and Cows, and Eco-Extravaganza! If you are  interested in having Owls On Tour visit your school, please

contact SBOIC.

Owls On Tour is a high-energy hour of environmental education.  sutters-n-Luna.jpg (6216 bytes)Depending  on the age of the audience, the hour may include slides, songs, skits  and stories revolving around the endangered burrowing owl and it's  disappearing habitat.

At  the end of the hour, participants have the opportunity to meet a live  burrowing owl and engage in a question and answer session.

Owls and Cows

What do Owls & Cows have in common?

In  Saskatchewan burrowing owls and cows can live in harmcfcdk.jpg (6652 bytes)ony in a native  prairie ecosystem.  Cattle are beneficial to the owls, as they keep the  grass short by grazing and provide nest-lining material (manure) for  the owls. In 2001, the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretive Centre  teamed up with the Prairie Conservation Action Plan (PCAP) to offer  "Owls & Cows".  Students not only receive our highly acclaimed Owls  On Tour program but PCAP's "Cows, Fish, Cattle Dogs & Kids" Game  Show.  To find out more about this interactive game show please visit  the PCAP website.

Eco-Extravaganza

The  Eco-Extravaganza is an education outreach program on prairie  conservation and management for K-6 students.  Schools hosting this  initiative receive an entire morning of programming from Saskatchewan  conservation groups (including Cows, Fish, Cattle Dogs & Kids and  Owls On Tour).
